Free water-saving devices being distributed to households across Cyprus

A nationwide campaign to help households save water is now underway, with thousands of free water-saving devices being distributed across Cyprus.

The campaign was launched by the Water Development Department as part of the government’s wider effort to encourage more responsible water use at a time when the island continues to face pressure on its water supplies.

The first stage of the programme began earlier in 2026 with the distribution of water-saving equipment to businesses and other large water users. The scheme was later expanded to households, with deliveries beginning in the Paphos district before moving to the rest of Cyprus.

The aim is to provide around 75,000 households with free water-saving kits. Each kit includes four tap aerators and two shower flow restrictors. These simple devices can help reduce household water use by up to 30 per cent while allowing people to continue using their taps and showers normally.

Distribution progress

The distribution of the kits is continuing across the island. According to the latest update from the Ministry of Agriculture, around 35 per cent of the household kits have already been delivered.

Distribution has been completed in the Paphos and Famagusta districts, while deliveries are continuing in the remaining districts. The full rollout is expected to be completed by mid-September.

How can residents receive the kits?

Residents receiving the kits are encouraged to install the devices as soon as possible. The installation process is simple and does not require specialist help. The devices can be fitted directly onto existing taps and shower fittings.
