Below you will find the list of the few events that came to my attention for August. - Screening of the Environmental Documentary “A City in the Forest”

The 21st edition of the Lemesos International Documentary Festival will take place from August 1 to August 8, 2026, and this year Friends of the Earth Cyprus supports the screening of the environmental documentary A City in the Forest directed by Lev Omelchenko, Nolan Huber (2026, 99’, USA).
The documentary follows a grassroots movement in Atlanta fighting to protect an urban forest from the construction of “Cop City”, a large police training facility. Through the struggle to defend the forest, the film brings together questions of environmental justice, political power, policing, democracy and collective resistance.

- Book Swap in Paphos

the Booky project will be the book-focused part of Friendly Swap—an event where you can give items a second life by swapping them or finding new owners for them.
Anyone with books they’ve already read is invited to bring them to the swap. Books can be dropped off in advance at the Beon reception desk starting July 27 (Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m.) or brought directly on the day of the event.
To make the book swap even more convenient, books you plan to bring can be added to the Booky platform in advance. When adding a book, simply note that it’s part of the “friendly swap”—that way, other participants will be able to see it before the event begins. Even if a book doesn’t find a new reader at the event itself, it will remain in the Booky system, where someone else can find it later.
In addition to books, you can bring clothing, accessories, gadgets, toys, plants, tableware, and other small items in good condition. For items you’d rather sell than swap, there will be a resale stand at the venue.

- Lysos Cultural Festival

Every year, the Festival serves as a major meeting point for residents, friends, and especially the expatriates of Lysos, who return to the village from different countries to reunite with relatives, friends, and fellow villagers. It is an evening full of emotion, memories, and love for the village, where older generations remember the past and younger generations learn about their traditions and roots.
There will also be stalls offering food, resi, drinks, and sweets, giving visitors the chance to enjoy traditional flavours and experience the genuine hospitality of the community. Resi, one of the most characteristic traditional dishes, holds a special place in the Festival and is directly connected with our folk tradition.
A particularly interesting part of the day will take place in the morning. At 10:30 a.m. on 16 August, there will be the grinding of resi at the traditional mill of Lysos. This activity revives an older village practice and gives visitors, especially younger people, the opportunity to experience an important part of our cultural heritage.
