The Greens Join Nationwide Protest Against High Electricity Prices – Energy Justice Cannot Wait

The ongoing energy cost crisis is a serious social and economic problem, placing a disproportionate burden on households, small and medium-sized enterprises, and vulnerable social groups.

Cyprus’s dependence on imported fossil fuels, combined with long-standing delays in implementing a comprehensive energy strategy, makes meaningful intervention more urgent than ever.

The Cyprus Green Party – Citizens’ Cooperation has repeatedly stressed that tackling high energy costs cannot be limited to temporary subsidies and piecemeal measures.

What is needed is the accelerated deployment of renewable energy sources, the development of energy storage infrastructure, the energy upgrading of buildings, and the assurance that all citizens have equal access to affordable and clean energy.

Our participation in the protest reflects our firmly held position that addressing shared social problems requires cooperation, responsibility, concrete action, and political solutions that transcend party divisions.

The gathering will take place at 16:00 at Eleftheria Square, with the march to the Presidential Palace beginning at 16:30 and the protest outside the Presidential Palace taking place at 17:00.

To facilitate public participation, the organisers have announced free bus transportation to Nicosia, with departures from:

• Paphos: 14:00

• Paralimni: 14:30

• Larnaca: 15:00

• Limassol: 15:00

Return journeys will take place after the protest has concluded. For information and to reserve a seat on the buses, interested participants can call 22059519.

Access to affordable energy is a fundamental prerequisite for social justice, economic sustainability, and environmental protection.
