This week, two developments stood out: a student innovation programme focused on green solutions and local volunteer action to promote cleaner cities.
Students Present New Sustainable Ideas Through Mind Reset
A major highlight was the completion of the fifth cycle of the Mind Reset programme, supported by Lidl Cyprus and implemented by Junior Achievement Cyprus The initiative encourages students to develop environmentally responsible business ideas while learning about sustainability and entrepreneurship.
This year, more than 60 student teams from schools across the island participated. Many projects focused on reducing food waste, encouraging responsible consumption and finding practical ways to protect the environment. Over five years, the programme has reached thousands of students, showing how sustainability education is becoming more embedded in the school system.

Community Volunteers Encourage Cleaner Cities
At the local level, environmental awareness was promoted through activities organised by City Friends Club in Limassol. Volunteers were invited to help clean public areas after carnival events, encouraging residents to take responsibility for their surroundings.
While small in scale, initiatives like these play an important role in shaping everyday behaviour and strengthening community involvement in environmental protection.
Taken together, these stories show how sustainability in Cyprus is expanding beyond policy discussions into daily life. Young people are developing green ideas, creative industries are exploring more responsible production, and communities are becoming more active in caring for their environment.
